This course deals with energy and the relations between heat and work. It covers the temperature and the zeroth law of thermodynamics, pressure and pressure measuring devices, property tables of water and other pure substances, the ideal gas equation of state, the boundary work of different thermodynamic processes, the application of the first law of thermodynamics to closed and open systems, the application of the second law of thermodynamics which include: heat engines, refrigerators, and heat pumps. The course also covers the Carnot and the reversed Carnot cycles, Carnot principles, the ideal heat engines, ideal refrigerators, ideal heat pumps and the entropy.
